Bradenton has three different tree problems inside one city. Downtown and the Village of the Arts, the arts district immediately south of it, sit on 1920s bungalow lots where the alleys are narrow, the houses are close together and the oaks are older than anybody living on the block. Riverview Boulevard is the opposite. It follows the Manatee River through the historic River District under heavy old canopy, past estate lots and houses that go back to the 1800s, where the trees are the whole reason people bought there in the first place. Then south of Cortez Road you get Bayshore Gardens, which opened in 1956 and filled in through the early 1960s, block after block of mid century houses under laurel oaks that have reached the end of what a laurel oak is good for and started shedding limbs with no warning at all.

Live oak and laurel oak generate most of the calls. Live oak is worth keeping and usually wants a reduction and a deadwood cleanout rather than a removal. Laurel oak is the one that fools people. It grows fast, it looks fine from the driveway, and then it drops a leader across a lanai in an ordinary afternoon storm. Sabal palms and queen palms are the steady background work, especially along the older streets in West Bradenton where the fronds and seed pods end up in the pool.
Exposure changes the job across town. Out on Perico Island and around Palma Sola Bay you are dealing with salt wind, sand and Australian pine, which is shallow rooted and brittle and has no business standing near a house. Downtown and along Wares Creek the water table is high and the roots stay shallow. East past I-75 toward the Braden River it is slash pine, and anything a previous crew has topped. A topped tree grows back weak and comes apart in the next real wind.

What does tree removal cost?
It depends on the tree, what sits under it and how we can reach it. A big oak leaning over a roof is a different job than a dead pine in an open yard. Estimates are free with no obligation, so text us and we will come look.
Do you take the stump out too?
We can. Stump grinding is a separate line on the estimate, so you can add it or leave the stump. Grinding it down lets sod or a planting bed go back over the spot.
How often should my trees be trimmed?
That depends on the species, the age of the tree and what is underneath it. Our arborist will tell you what your trees actually need at the estimate, including which ones can wait another year.
Can you reach a tree in my backyard?
Usually, yes. Between tracked lifts, bucket trucks, a crane and climbers there aren't many spots we can't work. If the access really is closed off, we will tell you that up front instead of guessing.
How do you take payment?

Is my oak a grand tree under the Bradenton code?
Inside City of Bradenton limits the classification comes down to trunk diameter measured at breast height, and it puts the tree into non significant, significant or grand. A grand tree carries the heaviest replacement requirement, and the city allows a Tree Fund payment in place of replanting in some cases. We measure it and tell you where it lands before you commit to anything.
Can you work a Village of the Arts lot?
Yes. Those bungalow lots are small, the houses sit close and the useful access is usually the alley rather than the street. We rig the tree down in pieces and stage the debris where it will not block a neighbor. The crew is in uniform and the trucks are lettered, which matters on a street where everybody is home during the day.
When should I get storm prep pruning done?
Structural and thinning work is best done before the wet season, so late winter into spring. If a limb is already hanging over the roof, do not wait for a season. Safety pruning happens any time of year.
