Restored lake bank on a freshwater retention pond in a deed restricted Punta Gorda, Florida community
Charlotte County

Punta Gorda, FL

Punta Gorda is the Charlotte County seat, and it does not look like the rest of the coast. Downtown is a tight old grid around Marion Avenue with the historic district off it, and the city enforces its own tree ordinance rather than the county one. West of that, Punta Gorda Isles was built out between 1957 and 1981 on canals no less than a hundred feet wide with direct access to Charlotte Harbor. Burnt Store Isles sits on the other side of US 41 with its own canals draining to Alligator Creek and Twin Isles Country Club in the middle of it. Both neighborhoods sit in the city canal maintenance assessment district, which is why the seawall at the back of the lot is public and not yours.

Head south down Burnt Store Road and the picture changes again: Burnt Store Village, then Burnt Store Lakes with its eleven lakes, then Burnt Store Marina, which keeps a Punta Gorda address but sits over the Lee County line. Then there is the inland half of the mailing address. Deep Creek is north of the Peace River off Kings Highway, split by Sandhill Boulevard into Section 20 and Section 23, with association greenbelt behind every lot. Charlotte Ranchettes is roughly seven miles east of downtown, zoned agriculture, no HOA and plenty of it still on dirt roads, and the 33982 side keeps going east toward Babcock Ranch and State Road 31. Same city name on the envelope, completely different tree and land work.

We have worked Charlotte County for 23 years, and our storm crews have run Charley, Matthew, Florence, Irma, Michael, Sally and Ida. An ISA Certified Arborist is on staff, crews carry workers comp and general liability, and estimates are free. Text 941-445-3027 with a photo.

What Punta Gorda properties actually need

On the canal side in Punta Gorda Isles and Burnt Store Isles, lots are narrow and the back of the property ends at a city maintained seawall. A removal has to come out over a pool cage, a dock or a neighbor's driveway, not down the middle of a yard. We rig for that. We do not build or repair concrete seawalls, that is a marine contractor's trade, but we do keep root systems and heavy limbs off the cap and we clean up without dropping debris in the water.

Inland the work changes character. Burnt Store Lakes was platted around eleven lakes with greenbelts and a mangrove preserve on Bear Branch Creek. Seminole Lakes is built around its golf course off US 41, and St. Andrews South carries fifteen lakes of its own inside Punta Gorda Isles. Deep Creek runs association maintained greenbelt behind every lot, north and south of Sandhill Boulevard. Those boards deal with bank erosion, preserve tracts filling with Brazilian pepper, and ditch lines that stop draining in August. We hold a State Licensed Aquatic Herbicide Applicator credential, so the water side stays in house rather than getting subbed out.

  • Live oak and laurel oak structural pruning downtown and in the historic streets
  • Palm and shade tree work on narrow canal lots in the Isles
  • Forestry mulching on Charlotte Ranchettes acreage and the 33982 parcels east of town
  • Lake bank restoration on freshwater HOA retention ponds using the PondTech plank system
  • Preserve tract and greenbelt exotic removal for POA boards
  • 24 hour storm response with self sufficient crews, free estimates, text 941-445-3027

Local Questions

Punta Gorda Questions

Do I need a permit to take a tree down in Punta Gorda?

It depends which side of the line you are on. Inside the city limits, no native or approved non-native tree 12 inches or larger in diameter at breast height comes down without an approved City of Punta Gorda tree removal permit. That permit can be approved at no charge where the tree is a hazard to life or property that cannot be mitigated without removing it, where it is dying or dead so restoration is not practicable, or where it has a disease that can be transmitted to other trees. Tree replacement is required if the removal drops the property below the city minimum. In Deep Creek, the Burnt Store communities and the Ranchettes you are in unincorporated Charlotte County and a different rulebook applies. We tell you which one covers your address before we quote.

Do you repair the seawalls on the Punta Gorda Isles canals?

No. Those are saltwater canals behind public concrete seawall that the City of Punta Gorda maintains through the canal maintenance assessment on Punta Gorda Isles and Burnt Store Isles, and seawall work is marine construction, a separate trade. What we do is the freshwater side. Lake bank restoration and erosion repair on the stormwater retention ponds inside the neighborhoods, which runs $50 to $100 per linear foot. If you are not sure which one you have, send a photo and we will tell you straight.

How fast can you get to Punta Gorda after a hurricane?

Calls are answered 24 hours a day and we have worked Charley, Matthew, Florence, Irma, Michael, Sally and Ida. Our crews travel self sufficient with travel trailers, generators and their own fuel, so we do not need power, open gas stations or a clear run over the US 41 bridges in order to start working.

Will you work with our HOA or POA board?

Yes, and a large portion of what we do here is multi year repeat business with associations. We send a certificate of insurance to your management company before we mobilize, crews arrive in uniform in clean lettered trucks, and the site is cleaned up at the end of the day. Estimates are free with no obligation.
