Charlotte County

Port Charlotte, FL

Port Charlotte was drawn on paper before most of it was built. General Development Corporation and the Mackle brothers platted this grid in the 1950s, and that street pattern is still the thing every crew works around. Lots run narrow with tight setbacks, so the slash pine, live oak, laurel oak and cabbage palm that came up on them have had decades to get big in a space nobody sized for a mature canopy. On the west side the grid runs out to the canal system at South Gulf Cove and El Jobean, and on the east it runs down to open Charlotte Harbor at Edgewater and Grassy Point.

We have run Charlotte County for 23 years. Charley put the eyewall over this town in 2004 and Ian did it again in 2022, and we have worked hurricanes going back to Charley. An ISA Certified Arborist is on staff, so you get a straight answer on whether a tree is worth saving before anybody pulls a saw. We carry workers compensation and general liability, and the certificate goes out before the crew does.

What Port Charlotte properties actually need

The grid is the thing that shapes the work here. A Section 15 lot off Loveland or Peachland can have a finished house on one side and raw palmetto and pine on the other, so half the trees on your property line belong to a lot nobody has touched in years. Out in South Gulf Cove the canal runs up to the seawall, drop zones are short, and the chipper has to work from the street. It is the same on the harbor front at Edgewater and Grassy Point. In Riverwood and Heritage Oak Park it is gate access, association rules and pool cages.

Storm damage still turns up on ordinary jobs out here. Ian broke tops out of pines and split live oaks that look fine from the road, and some of that is only failing now. We look at the whole tree, not just the limb you called about. Charlotte County also wants a tree permit approved before any site clearing begins, and complete clearing of a lot is not allowed without an associated building permit. We check that before we quote so nobody gets shut down on day one.

  • Slash pine, live oak and laurel oak pruning and removal on tight platted lots
  • Cabbage palm trimming on canal and harbor front property
  • Forestry mulching on grown up vacant lots with road frontage access only
  • Permitted land clearing for new builds, with heritage trees left standing
  • 24 hour hurricane response with self sufficient crews
  • Free estimates with no obligation, text a photo to get started

Local Questions

Port Charlotte Questions

Do I need a permit to clear my vacant lot in Port Charlotte?

Almost certainly. Port Charlotte is unincorporated, so Charlotte County rules apply. The county requires a tree permit approved before any clearing of a site begins, and complete clearing of a property is not allowed without an associated building permit tied to it. Heritage trees are meant to be preserved and only come out in a legitimate hardship the zoning official authorizes. We walk the lot, check what the parcel actually allows, and handle the permit process rather than handing you a form.

How far out are you booking land clearing?

Land clearing is generally never more than two weeks out. We own a large collection of machines and operators instead of renting, so our schedule is not tied to somebody else's equipment yard. We also never take money up front on land clearing. You pay when the work is finished and you have walked the lot.

Do you work inside Riverwood and Heritage Oak Park?

Yes, and we go in the way the association asks. Both are gated and deed restricted, so the management office gets our insurance paperwork before the truck is at the gate and we keep to whatever hours and access route they set. Riverwood runs along the Myakka River with preserve edge behind a lot of the homes, which is where most of the limb work comes from. Heritage Oak Park is built tighter around interior lakes, so the drop zone and the chipper position get planned before we arrive.

How fast can you get here after a hurricane?

We are open 24 hours. Our storm crews have worked Charley, Irma, Michael, Sally and Ida, and they travel with trailers, generators and fuel so they are not depending on local gas or power to keep cutting. Call or text 941-445-3027 and tell us what is down and where it landed.
