North Port is its own city and it enforces tree protection through its own Unified Land Development Code, which the city adopted in 2024 and which catches people out constantly. Authorization is required to remove, relocate or cause irreparable injury to a tree here unless it falls in a listed exemption. Those exemptions cover Florida Exotic Pest Plant Council Category I species such as Brazilian pepper, punk tree and Australian pine, dead trees on vacant property verified by an ISA arborist, trees the city determines pose an imminent danger, and nursery stock. A healthy laurel oak in the back yard is not on that list. We have an ISA Certified Arborist on staff, and we sort out what applies to your specific tree at the estimate rather than after the fact.
The trees themselves tell you the age of the street. The older platted sections have slash pine and laurel oak that went in with the first houses and are now well past the size anyone planned for on a quarter acre lot. Laurel oak does not age gracefully in this sand. It hollows at the base and starts shedding limbs long before it looks sick from the ground. The newer streets around Wellen Park have the opposite problem, young trees nobody ever pruned for structure that are now running two competing leaders straight over a roof.
Access is the North Port wrinkle. Plenty of lots here back onto a canal, a drainage easement or a platted preserve tract, so the drop zone is ground we are not going to rut up or fill with brush. We plan the route and pick the machine before anything comes down.

Most of our removals in the city are one of three trees. Slash pine that has outgrown a small lot and now leans toward the house. Laurel oak that is hollow at the base and past saving. Cabbage palm that has been left to build a heavy boot and drop fronds on a pool cage. Live oak we would usually rather prune than remove, because a well structured live oak is the tree you want standing when the wind comes.
Then there is the canal side work. Where a bank has eroded back, the tree on top of it loses root plate and starts to lean over the water. That is a removal that has to be done off the bank, not on it, and it usually pairs with bank repair. We can do both, which saves you bringing two outfits onto the same slope.
For invasives it is a different conversation. Brazilian pepper, Australian pine, punk tree and carrotwood are Category I species and they are treated differently under the code. Getting those off a property is normally straightforward and it improves the lot.

Tree Removal
Trees come out for all kinds of reasons. Dead or declining, leaning toward the house, roots lifting a driveway, or simply the wrong tree in the wrong place. We look at the tree, what sits under it and how we can get to it, then pick the method that puts the least risk on your property.
Small lots and narrow side yards are the hard ones. That is where the tracked lift and the climbers earn their keep. Where there is room to work, a crane lifts whole sections out over the house instead of bringing them down through it.

Maintenance Trimming
Regular trimming does more than tidy things up. It takes out dead and diseased branches before they drop, thins the canopy so wind moves through it, and lets sunlight reach the grass and beds underneath.
Cuts get made where the tree can seal them. Sloppy pruning invites decay and pushes weak regrowth, which is why the species matters and why an arborist sets the plan before a saw comes out.

What does tree removal cost?
It depends on the tree, what sits under it and how we can reach it. A big oak leaning over a roof is a different job than a dead pine in an open yard. Estimates are free with no obligation, so text us and we will come look.
Do you take the stump out too?
We can. Stump grinding is a separate line on the estimate, so you can add it or leave the stump. Grinding it down lets sod or a planting bed go back over the spot.
How often should my trees be trimmed?
That depends on the species, the age of the tree and what is underneath it. Our arborist will tell you what your trees actually need at the estimate, including which ones can wait another year.
Can you reach a tree in my backyard?
Usually, yes. Between tracked lifts, bucket trucks, a crane and climbers there aren't many spots we can't work. If the access really is closed off, we will tell you that up front instead of guessing.
How do you take payment?
Cash, check or credit card. Credit cards carry a 3% fee.
Is North Port stricter about tree removal than the county?
It is a separate set of rules, which is the part that matters. North Port regulates trees under its own Unified Land Development Code with its own authorization requirement and its own exemption list. What your friend did on a lot in unincorporated Sarasota County is not a guide to what you can do inside the city limits. We check the current requirements against your tree and tell you what it takes.
The tree is right on the canal bank. Can you still get it?
Yes. That is common here and it is normally an equipment and access question rather than a can or cannot. We work off firm ground, reach in, and keep the machine off a bank that is already losing sand. If the bank underneath has failed we will show you that too, because taking the tree without fixing the slope only buys you a couple of seasons.
Do you handle emergencies, or only scheduled work?
Both. We are open 24 hours and we run emergency service. If a limb is on your roof at two in the morning in North Port, call. If it is a pine that has been leaning a little more every year, we would rather look at it on a dry Tuesday and give you a free estimate.
