Trimming near the water in Englewood is not the same job as trimming inland. Salt wind off the Gulf pushes canopies to one side, so live oaks along Lemon Bay and the canals in Englewood Isles are often leaning long before the owner notices. Sabal palms hold up better but drop heavy boots over pool cages. Australian pines shed limbs with no warning at all, and they line the older fence rows from Grove City down along Placida Road.
Permitting is the part people get wrong. Your parcel is either Sarasota County or Charlotte County depending on which side of the line it sits, and the two do not read the same. Basic trimming and pruning on private property is exempt on the Sarasota side, but that exemption stops at the right of way and on a designated canopy road, and most removals in the unincorporated county still need a permit. Charlotte County measures instead of describing. A tree needs a permit once it reaches 4 inches in diameter, and a palm counts once it carries 6 feet of clear trunk. One more Englewood specific note. If the tree in question is a mangrove along Lemon Bay, county rules are not the ones that govern it. Mangroves sit under a separate state law, the Florida Mangrove Trimming and Preservation Act, and Lemon Bay is a designated aquatic preserve on top of that. Most of what we take down here falls into two buckets. Access shapes the price more than people expect. What does tree removal cost?
It depends on the tree, what sits under it and how we can reach it. A big oak leaning over a roof is a different job than a dead pine in an open yard. Estimates are free with no obligation, so text us and we will come look.
Do you take the stump out too?
We can. Stump grinding is a separate line on the estimate, so you can add it or leave the stump. Grinding it down lets sod or a planting bed go back over the spot.
How often should my trees be trimmed?
That depends on the species, the age of the tree and what is underneath it. Our arborist will tell you what your trees actually need at the estimate, including which ones can wait another year.
Can you reach a tree in my backyard?
Usually, yes. Between tracked lifts, bucket trucks, a crane and climbers there aren't many spots we can't work. If the access really is closed off, we will tell you that up front instead of guessing.
How do you take payment?
Cash, check or credit card. Credit cards carry a 3% fee.
Does trimming need a permit in Englewood?
On the Sarasota County side, no. Sarasota County does not require a permit to trim or prune trees on private property. Removals are a separate question, and if your lot is on the Charlotte County side the thresholds are stricter. We confirm which county your parcel falls in before we start.
The tree is right on the seawall behind my canal home. Can you still get it out?
Usually yes, and how we do it depends on the room we have. Narrow Englewood Isles and Overbrook Gardens lots often mean rigging the tree down in sections rather than dropping it, so nothing lands on the seawall, the dock or the cage. We tell you which approach we are taking during the estimate.
What should I do about the Australian pines along my back line?
Take them out rather than top them. They are shallow rooted, brittle, and they are the trees that come down first in a coastal blow. On the Sarasota County side they are exempt from the removal permit, so it is normally a straightforward job.
